Earth's Natural Systems - teaching and learning program

The NESA Teaching advice suggests two possible approaches to teaching Earths Natural Systems.

• Students can investigate natural cycles and circulations across a variety of global environments and contexts. Using this approach students work sequentially through the different Earth systems drawing on a variety of material from Powerful Geography 1, including Visualise This, GEOstories and a case study to understand a variety of processes, cycles and circulations. POWERFUL GEOGRAPHY 1: Sample Teaching Program 1 follows this approach (attached).

• Students learn about the concept of natural cycles and flows through the study of a particular place such as a mountain environment, or through a natural phenomenon/event such as a cyclone. Using this approach students use a case study such as the Cryosphere or Forests in Powerful Geography 1 to understand how interacting systems influence the characteristics of one type of environment. They integrate GEOstories and Visualise This to develop a deeper understanding of concepts referred to in the selected case study. POWERFUL GEOGRAPHY 1: Sample Teaching Program 2 follows this approach (this program will be shared in a future post).
