Lorraine Chaffer - Author, Managing Editor (Curated by, Concept by) Lorraine Chaffer has many years of experience teaching HSC Geography in NSW. She co-authored MacMillan GeoWorld textbooks for the Australian Curriculum 7-10 and NSW Geography Syllabus 7-10 and contributed to Macmillan Global Atlas 5th Edition and work for other publishers. Lorraine has been President and Vice President of the Geography Teachers Association of NSW and ACT and been Editor of the GTANSW & ACT Geography Bulletin for eight years and a major contributor. Lorraine has been involved in NESA syllabus development, HSC marking and examination committees. She has received many awards for her contribution to Geography Education in NSW and continues to be heavily involved in the professional learning of teachers and resource development. Louise Swanson - Author, Managing Editor Louise Swanson is an experienced teacher of HSC Geography in NSW. She is the co-ordinating author of Jacaranda Geoactive textbook series for NSW Geography Syllabus 7-10. Louise is working extensively with Department of Education and cross-sectoral teacher networks to support the current process of curriculum reform, and has provided support for Geography teachers through publishing the HSIE Teachers blog since 2013. She has presented at lectures, led webinars and run Conference workshops for a range of professional associations and events. Louise has previously been Vice President of GTANSW & ACT and is currently working as Deputy Principal at a Sydney high school. Karen Bowden - Author
Karen Bowden is a passionate teacher of HSC Geography, experienced in HSC Geography marking over many years. She has experience teaching Geography across a range of educational settings, including teacher training. Karen has been involved in syllabus development and presented GTANSW & ACT HSC Geography lectures. She is a contributing author for Jacaranda GeoActive Fourth and Fifth Edition textbooks for the NSW Geography Syllabus 7-10. Khya Brooks - Author Khya Brooks is an experienced Geography and HSC Geography Teacher who has contributed in many ways to enhancing Geography Education in NSW. Khya has presented GTANSW & ACT HSC Geography lectures and run Conference workshops. Khya is renowned for her innovative ideas and creative approach to classroom teaching. Through this she has written articles for the Teachers Federation Journal and Geography Bulletins. She has also been involved in the development of Geography syllabus resources, assessment tasks and programs for various educational institutions, including the Department of Education. Matt Carroll - Author Matt Carroll is an experienced and respected teacher of HSC Geography in NSW having worked across multiple school sectors. Matt has contributed in many ways to enhance the teaching of Geography in NSW through HSC exam marking and through developing Assessment Packages and the Trial HSC Examination papers for Bookminders Australia. In addition, he coordinates the ITE examination packages, including the creation of the Trial HSC. Matt has also written several feature articles in the Geography Bulletin on a range of topics and case studies and presented HSC Exam Preparation lectures and workshops at conferences for Geography 7 - 12 teachers for GTANSW & ACT Our team of authors are excited to introduce you to Powerful Geography - a set of books to support teaching Senior Geography in NSW. The new NSW NESA Senior Geography syllabus will be implemented in Year 11 in 2024 and in Year 12 in 2025. Powerful Geography 1 is the first of two resources to be published, written for the new syllabus. Powerful Geography 2 will be available in 2024. There are detailed, contemporary case studies for each Content Focus Area. Each section contains detailed case studies to support learning across a range of topics. This books provides you with the flexibility to teach the syllabus how you choose, and to build on the interests of your students to ensure engagement in Senior Geography. GEOstories The shorter GEOstories are micro case studies to stimulate discussion. Each section contains GEOstories - short case studies that you can use to engage your students in the topic. These could be used as illustrative examples of specific concepts or ideas, in group work, or to differentiate learning for students of different abilities. Visualise This The Visualise This image-based features explain key concepts using illustrations. Each section contains a series of spreads that explain key concepts in a visual form. These will helps students to clarify their understanding of complex concepts and make connections between different ideas. Student Activities The Student activities include different levels of questioning - Core Knowledge, Application, Extensions and Fieldwork and Skills, and cater for a range of student abilities. |
