Our team of authors are excited to introduce you to Powerful Geography - a set of books to support teaching Senior Geography in NSW. The new NSW NESA Senior Geography syllabus will be implemented in Year 11 in 2024 and in Year 12 in 2025. Powerful Geography 1 is the first of two resources to be published, written for the new syllabus. Powerful Geography 2 will be available in 2024. This resource has been funded by the Geography Teachers Association of NSW & ACT. Powerful Geography offers teachers and students a range of case studies and GEOstories, Visualise This and Student activities to support teaching and learning. Case Studies
There are detailed, contemporary case studies for each Content Focus Area. Each section contains detailed case studies to support learning across a range of topics. This books provides you with the flexibility to teach the syllabus how you choose, and to build on the interests of your students to ensure engagement in Senior Geography. GEOstories The shorter GEOstories are micro case studies to stimulate discussion. Each section contains GEOstories - short case studies that you can use to engage your students in the topic. These could be used as illustrative examples of specific concepts or ideas, in group work, or to differentiate learning for students of different abilities. Visualise This The Visualise This image-based features explain key concepts using illustrations. Each section contains a series of spreads that explain key concepts in a visual form. These will helps students to clarify their understanding of complex concepts and make connections between different ideas. Student Activities The Student activities include different levels of questioning - Core Knowledge, Application, Extensions and Fieldwork and Skills, and cater for a range of student abilities.
